SAFE PATH® is an environmentally safe liquid de-icer and pretreat solution that is effective in extreme winter conditions. It is a quicker alternative to traditional, chloride-based de-icers like rock salts. Compared to rock salts, SAFE PATH is better for floors, concrete, and metals. It is also a chloride-free formula that is safe for many surfaces, equipment, humans, pets, animals, wildlife, and landscaping. SAFE PATH is best used as a pretreat before snow and ice accumulate but can also be applied as a de-icer. SAFE PATH is a clear liquid that tracks like water but won't stain or damage entryway carpets and floors like rock salts.

SAFE PATH® FEATURES

  • Efficient and Easy to Use: SAFE PATH® is simple to use and can be applied both as a preventative measure before snowfall, and as a reactive solution after ice has formed.
  • Superior Performance: SAFE PATH® is a potent blend of 50% Potassium Acetate solution with corrosion inhibitors, offering superior ice melting performance.
  • Environmentally Friendly: SAFE PATH® is recognized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department as an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional salt solutions, offering superior protection for plants, pets, animals, and wildlife from ice buildup.
  • Cost Effective: SAFE PATH® not only reduces the risk of slips and falls, but it also cuts down on repair costs associated with corrosion. Unlike common chloride-based de-icers, it leaves no visible residue, meaning no damage to flooring due to tracked-in grit.

Have Questions About SAFE PATH®? We Have Answers!

What Is SAFE PATH®?

SAFE PATH® is a blend of high performing 50% Potassium Acetate solution and corrosion inhibitors. SAFE PATH® is best used as a de-icer, sprayed on the pavement before precipitation starts. SAFE PATH® breaks the bond between the ice crystal lattice and the concrete.

Do I need to mix SAFE PATH® with water?

No. SAFE PATH® is a ready to use formula and dilution will reduce the efficiency of the product.

Can I Use SAFE PATH® To Melt Through Layers Of Snow Or Ice?

With thicker (3/8") buildups of snow or ice, using SAFE PATH® no longer becomes a cost-effective alternative. It is recommended to remove the loose snow above before applying SAFE PATH®.

Will SAFE PATH® Track Into My Building?

SAFE PATH® has the same tracking properties as water on shoes during a rainy day. It doesn't leave a visible or corrosive residue like salts, pellets, and other products.

Is SAFE PATH® Safe To Use Around Metals?

The issue with de-icing products being used on metals is the corrosivity of chlorides. SAFE PATH® is a 100% non-chloride product and thus much safer. SAFE PATH® is formulated to improve its compatibility with copper, brass, aluminum, and other metals and alloys. Equipment surfaces that are frequently exposed to de-icing products like SAFE PATH® should be routinely wiped down with a warm wet rag (especially before and after the winter season) to prevent the accumulation of residue, minimize staining, and maintain equipment integrity.

Can I Overapply SAFE PATH®?

No. However, the most common mistake when using SAFE PATH® is by applying more product than is required to provide a safe surface. Simply apply the recommended ratio and allow SAFE PATH® to do the work.

Is SAFE PATH® Safe To Be Around Plants And Animals?

One of the standout features of SAFE PATH® is its eco-friendly formulation. The Dept of U.S. Fish and Wildlife recognize that it poses minimal risk to plants, pets, animals, and wildlife.

I Didn't Pre-Treat And It Snowed Last Night. Can I Use SAFE PATH® As A Post-Treat To Prevent Black Ice?

Yes. SAFE PATH® works as a post-treatment and will be more effective than chloride-based products, provided that any thick top layer of snow is removed first. SAFE PATH™ is effective down to a bone-chilling -27° F, making it one of the most extreme temperature de-icing formulas available.

Isn't It Cheaper To Just Use Rock Salt?

Initially, rock salt might seem like the more cost-effective option. However, its common overuse and inaccurate application often lead to wastage. Liquid-based products, like SAFE PATH®, offer faster, easier, and more precise application. Consider this: 1 gallon of SAFE PATH® covers an area equivalent to 50 Lbs of rock salt. When you also account for the damages caused by the corrosivity of rock salt, staining, and the subsequent cleaning costs, SAFE PATH® proves to be a more economical choice in the long haul.

If I Increase My Application Rate, Will It Increase The Amount Of Frozen Precipitation That SAFE PATH® Is Able To Melt?

Yes. The higher the concentration of SAFE PATH® on the sidewalk or surface compared to the amount of moisture will improve the amount of frozen precipitation capable of being melted.

Should SAFE PATH® Be Used In All Winter Storm Conditions?

While SAFE PATH™ is highly effective in preventing ice from adhering to surfaces, it's essential to understand its limitations. For instances of exceptionally thick ice buildups, granular products may be more suitable. SAFE PATH™ is not intended to replace plowing and snow removal. Instead, it serves as a tool to enhance the ease and efficiency of ice removal.
