environmental innovation, initiative and sustainability. The 2011
Environmental Excellence Awards were presented at a luncheon held in
conjunction with the association's annual Spring Meeting at Spokane's
Davenport Hotel.

This new cleaning program is part of its larger Operations Excellence program, and builds upon Stripes’ current success at in-store cleanliness by extending the program to the fueling dispensers and parking lots.

NEW YORK - Cleanliness is the No. 1 reason consumers choose one convenience store over another, according to M/A/R/C, which found 32 percent of shoppers citing a clean, well-lit store environment as one factor that would most cause them to seek out or wish to visit a specific store.
Convenience store retailers who want to attract the most shoppers should focus on the fundamentals, according to results of monthly, nationally representative surveys of 1,200 U.S. adults by M/A/R/C Research.
Bioremediation allows natural processes to clean up harmful chemicals in the environment. Microscopic “bugs” or microbes that live in soil and groundwater like to eat certain harmful chemicals, such as those found in gasoline and oil spills. When microbes completely digest these chemicals, they change them into water and harmless gases such as carbon dioxide.
